Evanescent Exhibition Opens at Chicago Botanic Garden

The Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe has unveiled a captivating new exhibit, ‘Shimmering Summer,’ featuring ‘Evanescent,’ a stunning installation designed by Atelier Sisu. This immersive experience integrates art with nature and will be open from June 6 to September 20.

Immersive Bubble Art

Atelier Sisu’s bubble sculptures bring the garden to life by illustrating the delicate and fleeting essence of bubbles. These sculptures aim to embody the temporary beauty found in life. Renzo B. Larriviere and Zara Pasfield, the creative minds behind Atelier Sisu, highlight the enchanting concept of evanescence, inspired during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interactive and Engaging

Jodi Zombolo, associate vice president of visitor events at the garden, mentions that the exhibit emphasizes art’s playful interaction with nature. It encourages visitors of all ages to engage with the installations by observing, touching, and walking around them.

Opening Events

The exhibit launch includes weekend activities such as bubble performances, glass blowing, hula-hoops, and live music from June 6 to 7, on Festival Field. Food offerings available for purchase include ‘bubble skewers’ and bubble tea from Garden View Cafe.

Accessibility and Pricing

Visitors can explore the installations across multiple garden locations like Buehler Enabling Garden, Serpentine Bridge, and Farm on Ogden. Public hours extend from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with special hours for members starting at 8 a.m. Ticket prices differ based on residency, with costs ranging from $22.95 to $24.95 for adults, and $14.95 to $16.95 for children aged 3-12. Children under 2 get free admission.

Additional Summer Events

A comprehensive summer program includes the Esplanade music series every Monday and Wednesday evening, and game nights each Thursday starting June 18. Notable events consist of the Heirloom Tomato Fest in August.
