Military Training Exercises Cause Stir in California Cities

16 hours ago 0

City officials in Long Beach and the City of Industry caution residents about potential disturbances caused by military training exercises on Thursday night. The training may include helicopters, controlled explosions, and simulated weapons fire. This noise could persist until 2 a.m. in the eastern part of Long Beach, where police will assist with safety.

A statement from Long Beach notes, “To preserve operational safety, we’re unable to provide further information regarding the nature of the training, location or timing. This event is not open to the public or media.”

The warnings echo similar messages issued Wednesday by Irvine and Pasadena, where training also took place. Pasadena spokesperson Lisa Derderian emphasized the importance of public awareness, especially during election week, using various platforms like social media and Nixle for communication.

In Pasadena, exercises occurred at the old St. Luke Hospital, near Altadena Drive and Washington Boulevard. Some residents expressed concern over the noise and the secrecy surrounding the exercises, despite efforts by city officials to notify the public.
