Armed Suspect Fatally Wounds Man in Uptown, Shot by Police

On Monday night, a 63-year-old man was fatally shot during an argument in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. According to police, the suspect fired multiple times at the victim, leading to the man’s death.

Officers responded to the shots fired call shortly before 8:30 p.m. The incident began with an altercation between the victim and a known individual, who then used a weapon to strike the victim multiple times. The victim passed away at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

After the shooting, the gunman fled north on the 4800 block of Clark Street, prompting a foot pursuit with police. When officers caught up with the suspect on Argyle Street, he aimed his weapon at them, prompting the officers to open fire.

The suspect was critically injured and taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Officers recovered a firearm at the scene and three officers were then transported to a local hospital for observation.

The Chicago police Investigative Response Team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability have been informed. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duty for a period of at least 30 days.
