Susan Lucci Reflects on Loss and Hope After Husband’s Passing

4 months ago 0

Susan Lucci, well-known for her role in “All My Children,” has opened up about her experience navigating life after the passing of her husband of over five decades, Helmut Huber. Huber, an Austrian-born television producer and classically trained chef, passed away in 2022 at the age of 84, shortly after suffering a stroke.

In her new book, “La Lucci,” the actress, now 79, candidly explores her journey through grief and her efforts to rebuild her life. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Lucci shared that she felt lost, struggling to find her way without her partner whom she married in 1969.

“There was talk of hope, and all I wished for was for him to walk back in,” said Lucci. “But I didn’t know if I could face the world without him.”

Despite their 53-year marriage, Lucci’s world was shaken after Huber’s death. They had two children together, and following his passing, she withdrew, canceling public appearances—a significant change for someone known for her fearless portrayal of Erica Kane.

Reflecting on this time, Lucci credited her faith as her saving grace. She found comfort in prayer, especially after meeting with Monsignor Jim Vlaun, who provided spiritual support and officiated her husband’s funeral services.

“Lunch with Monsignor Vlaun helped me find peace,” she said. “He assured me of the afterlife, saying, ‘You will know them, and they shall know you.'”

Lucci turned to their shared memories and their life together to find solace, eventually tackling tasks they once did together, like home renovations. This newfound independence helped her realize she could move forward. A pivotal moment was when she chose happiness over perpetual sadness, influenced by a conversation with a woman who had also faced profound losses.

“This woman taught me that, after such loss, she chose not to be sad all the time,” Lucci recounted. “That choice made an impression on me, realizing I too had a choice in my happiness.”

Her book, “La Lucci,” offers a window into her life, hoping to connect with others experiencing similar losses. Lucci emphasized that sharing one’s story can be empowering, offering connection and understanding to those who feel isolated in grief.

Despite the heartbreak, Lucci holds dear the life she built with Huber. She continues to live with gratitude for the love they shared, building a new chapter while cherishing the memories of the past.

“I’ve lived through love and loss, and like anyone else, these are universally human experiences,” she said. “I hope by sharing my story, others know they’re not alone.”

Looking ahead, Lucci seeks to embrace life with hope, carrying forward the love and memories of her late husband.
