MLB reporter Tricia Whitaker experienced a unique moment while covering the Baltimore Orioles’ game against the Detroit Tigers. Whitaker, reporting for Apple TV, took an Adley Rutschman liner to her forearm, showcasing the risks of being close to the action. Afterward, she shared images of the Orioles’ medical staff tending to her injury, complete with an ice pack and a wrap.
Whitaker playfully commented on the incident, tweeting that Rutschman’s exit velocity is indeed elite, with her forearm as evidence. She humorously mentioned being on the injury list for ten days due to forearm discomfort but assured everyone of her well-being, crediting the Orioles’ medical team for their care.
The reporter got some downtime as the game scheduled for Saturday was postponed because of rain in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic U.S. This delay provided her some additional rest over the Memorial Day weekend. The Orioles secured a 7-4 victory on Friday, with Rutschman notably contributing a double and a line drive that ended in Whitaker’s direction.
Despite the mishap, Whitaker seemed in good spirits, sharing her outfit for the Indy 500 on Instagram. Her lighthearted comments indicate her readiness to face more than just sports objects, as she humorously notes her only fear now is bouncing tires.
