Novak Djokovic, holding 24 major tournament titles, displayed youthful enthusiasm after his first-round victory over France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the French Open. Despite his numerous achievements, Djokovic celebrated as if it were his first win.
Ranked third, Djokovic defeated the unranked Perricard in four sets. Following the match, he delighted fans with a playful dance. The official Roland-Garros social media account shared a video of him dancing in a stairwell, challenging his friend, top-ranked women’s player Aryna Sabalenka, to match his moves. Although Sabalenka has not responded yet, anticipation grows for her reply, given her active presence on TikTok.
Sabalenka, who has clinched the Australian Open and US Open twice, begins her French Open campaign against Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. She seeks her first French Open title after reaching the final last year, where Coco Gauff defeated her.
Meanwhile, Djokovic, with three Roland-Garros wins, including a 2023 victory over Casper Ruud, prepares to face Valentin Royer in the second round. Friendly banter aside, Djokovic might feel relieved as Carlos Alcaraz, who beat him to win the 2026 Australian Open and previous Wimbledon titles, won’t compete due to a wrist injury.
