The Washington Nationals have faced controversy this week after Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe released a secretly recorded video. The video shows Sean Hudson, the director of community relations, allegedly saying the team excludes pitcher Trevor Williams from social media promotions due to his religious comments.
This video has led to calls for the Department of Justice to investigate, with politicians like Representative Lauren Boebert urging action. On May 28, 2025, Trevor Williams was seen in the dugout before a game against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash.
According to The Athletic, the Nationals fired a community relations executive three days after the release of this hidden camera conversation. The conversation involved discussions about an alleged social media ban on a Catholic pitcher, relationships with defense contractors, and efforts to appease President Trump.
Williams was reportedly targeted by Hudson for opposing the anti-Catholic group, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The Los Angeles Dodgers honored this group, which mocks Jesus Christ and Christian traditions. Hudson was reportedly caught saying, “The Dodgers had a group… who were drag queens dressed as nuns. He [Williams] went on social media like… ‘This is my religion. You all are mocking it… Because of that, we [Nationals] don’t use him [Williams] on social media.'” Williams pitched for the Nationals against the San Diego Padres during the sixth inning at Nationals Park on May 24, 2023.
The Washington Nationals have not publicly commented on Hudson’s firing. However, they provided a statement to Fox News Digital refuting the allegations: “The statements are not only factually incorrect but do not reflect the views, opinions, or actions of the Washington Nationals. The Nationals are dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our players, fans, and staff, and we vehemently deny any allegations to the contrary.” Hudson has not commented on the issue.
