6 days ago 0

A manhunt is ongoing in Virginia for Michael Puckett, described as “armed and extremely dangerous.” He is suspected of ambushing two Carroll County deputies during a welfare check, killing Logan Utt, a 31-year-old military veteran. The second deputy survived, protected by his ballistic vest.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when deputies responded to a family’s request for a welfare check. Upon arrival, Puckett allegedly opened fire. Deputies returned fire, but Puckett fled and remains at large. The Virginia State Police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, offers a $10,000 reward for any information leading to his capture.

Logan Utt joined the sheriff’s department in 2023, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. Carroll County Sheriff Kevin Kemp noted Utt’s dedication to making the county safer, calling his death a heroic loss.

The surviving deputy is in stable condition. Governor Abigail Spanberger emphasized the gravity of Utt’s sacrifice and the bravery of law enforcement. She encouraged anyone with information about Puckett’s location to report it immediately.

The Virginia State Police is spearheading the investigation, urging the public to avoid Puckett and contact authorities if sighted.
