Tom Steyer aims to tackle California’s housing issues if he becomes governor. He is a billionaire with a substantial portfolio of personal real estate assets.
Steyer, known as a progressive Democrat, advocates for affordable housing in the state. His significant wealth and luxurious real estate holdings have raised concerns among some voters.
Steyer became a billionaire by successfully leading a San Francisco hedge fund. With his wealth, he acquired multiple luxury homes, creating an impressive collection akin to a real estate magazine spread. His properties include cliff-top mansions in San Francisco overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, a classical home from 1909 situated in a gated community with palm trees and security guards nearby, and a $2 million condo in a San Francisco high-rise with city views.
Additionally, Steyer owns a home close to the Pacific Ocean in Stinson Beach, Marin County. To the south, in Pescadero, he purchased several land parcels, including single-family homes and mobile homes, to establish an 1,800-acre, grass-fed cattle ranch named TomKat, after himself and his wife, Kat Taylor.
Steyer’s properties extend beyond California. He owns a home on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada shore and an apartment on New York City’s Fifth Avenue, including a separate unit described in records as a “maid’s room.” Various records indicate he and his entities own over a dozen homes in total.
