The New England Patriots faced a tense moment during a celebrity softball game on Sunday. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson, known for his touchdown connection with Drake Maye in the Super Bowl, narrowly avoided a major injury. The incident occurred during a game hosted by Maye, when comedian Matt Rife collided with Stevenson’s leg in a rundown play, causing distress among Patriots fans.
The scene was captured in a video shared by Boston reporter Marlee Wierda. It shows Stevenson’s left leg bending awkwardly as Rife lost balance while heading to second base. Despite the scare, Stevenson appeared uninjured, getting up with a smile. The video clearly depicted the alarming moment.
Half the Patriots beat the s–t out of me,joked Rife on Instagram after the incident, acknowledging the drama of the moment.
This was not Rife’s only memorable moment in the game. The Ohio native began by hitting a triple to right-center, followed by a ground-rule double. His aggressive playstyle drew comparisons to Pete Rose’s legendary determination in the 1970 MLB All-Star Game.
Rife maintained his unapologetic stance on social media, emphasizing his competitive spirit for the game. When criticized by Patriots fans, he defended his actions, stating, Crowded baseline, had to do it,
asserting his dedication to winning.
Despite the tension, Rife’s team emerged victorious, echoing Rose’s triumph with his National League team in 1970. Rife proudly shared the win on Twitter, making sure everyone was aware of their success.
