Graham Platner Denies Allegations Amid Senate Campaign Controversy

24 hours ago 0

Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner recently responded to allegations made against him in his first national media interview since the controversy emerged. The allegations, detailed in a New York Times report, included claims of rape fantasies, heavy drinking, and violent episodes. One incident allegedly involved Platner pulling an ex-girlfriend from a taxi and confining her in a bedroom.

During an appearance on “All In with Chris Hayes,” Platner asserted, “No, it did not,” when asked about these allegations. He emphasized that some of the claims were politically motivated, stating, “There are some allegations in this piece that I just want to be kind of unequivocal about are simply not true. Anything alleging physicality… are statements of someone who’s politically motivated.”

Platner admitted to personal struggles, including self-medicating with alcohol, but denied accusations of physical abuse. He said, “I’ve been very upfront since the beginning of this campaign that was a pretty dark period of my life after I came back from my combat service.” He reiterated his denial of the specific allegations asked by Hayes.

In response, Platner’s campaign criticized a key witness, Lyndsey Fifield, characterizing her as a “lifelong GOP operative.” Platner’s campaign has faced growing scrutiny, including past controversial actions and statements.

Earlier revelations included a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol now covered up, and past Reddit comments, where he reportedly claimed a wounded soldier didn’t deserve to live. Additionally, reports emerged about explicit messages sent to six women while married, prompting his wife, Amy Gertner, to defend him publicly.
