Kennedy Center to Remove Trump References Amid Legal Ruling

18 hours ago 0

The Kennedy Center is taking steps to erase mentions of President Donald Trump after a federal judge determined his name had been added to the arts center unlawfully. Roma Daravi, vice president of public relations for the Kennedy Center, announced compliance with the court order while exploring legal avenues to honor President Trump’s contributions.

A memo from the Kennedy Center’s Office of General Counsel outlined that all official documents, including email signatures and letterhead, must identify the facility as “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or simply “Kennedy Center.” The deadline for these updates is set for June 12.

Judge Christopher Cooper blocked efforts to close the venue for significant renovations planned for July. Trump, following the judge’s decision, stated he would step back from the renovation plans and transfer control back to Congress. This move comes after the venue was temporarily renamed during Trump’s presidency.

Trump reacted to the decision by labeling Judge Cooper as biased and opined that the center would likely shut down soon. His response was tied to previous legal losses, including a Supreme Court decision on tariffs earlier in the year.

Trump’s broader initiative to redesign Washington’s landmarks faced setbacks with the decision. Despite the halt on the planned renovations at the Kennedy Center, the administration reported completing renovations to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool with a new “American flag blue” hue. Additionally, significant changes were noted at the White House East Wing and plans for new structures between historic monuments.
