Beastie Boys alum Mike D will release his debut solo album, “Thank You,” under his Mike D 5D project on August 28. This release marks the first full-length album from a Beastie Boys member since the 2011 album “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.” Fans have waited a long time for this moment.
What to Expect from the New Album
According to a press statement provided to Newsweek, “Thank You” delivers a “dozen servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks.” Mike D’s distinctive voice guides listeners through a soundscape that resists easy classification.
In conjunction with the album announcement, Mike D has unveiled a visualizer for the track “True Colors.” This song is now available for streaming.
Collaborative Beginnings
Mike D began recording “Thank You” with what his team calls “experimental recording sessions” at his home studio. Initially, he worked with his sons, Skyler and Davis, before inviting more contributors. The sessions grew into a collaborative effort featuring vibrant artwork by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.
The Joy of Creating Music
Mike D expressed his enjoyment in creating this album. “It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love, and I have grown to appreciate our collaboration,” he said in a statement. He hopes the music brings joy to others and is not taken too seriously, given the current global climate.
This release not only adds to Mike D’s legacy but also celebrates the Beastie Boys’ enduring influence, with contributions from his family making it all the more meaningful.
