A Washington high school lacrosse player, Eliot Abramson, tragically passed away following an accident during a game. The incident occurred on June 1 when the 17-year-old midfielder was participating in a college recruiting showcase. Eliot, a sophomore at Mercer Island High School near Seattle, had been active in lacrosse since his elementary school years.
During the game, Eliot was struck by a fast-moving lacrosse ball at the base of his neck. The ball slipped underneath the back edge of his helmet. Witnesses saw him lose consciousness immediately and collapse on the field. He was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent emergency surgery and spent nearly a week in intensive care.
“While Eliot’s time on earth will end way too soon, we are comforted that he will be in heaven with his dad, making him laugh, playing music with his smile lighting up the room. We’re sure he’ll be doing ‘wall ball’ in the sky and rooting for all his friends.”
Eliot’s mother, Jessica Abramson-Lott, shared these heartfelt words on social media. She noted that her son is now reunited with his biological father, Josef Abramson, who passed away when Eliot was just three years old. School officials and family members confirmed that Eliot died on June 7.
Sadly, this marks the second occurrence in a year of a high school athlete dying due to similar circumstances. The previous year, Ohio lacrosse player Dylan Veselic, aged 16, suffered a similar fatal injury.
