Thrilling Stanley Cup Final: Hurricanes vs. Golden Knights

2 weeks ago 0

The Stanley Cup Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights has delivered remarkable excitement. After four intense games, including two in Vegas, the series returned to Raleigh for Game 5, tied at 2-2.

Game 5 started slower than previous matches but carried a recurring theme: self-inflicted penalties. A pivotal moment came when Vegas’ Pavel Dorofeyev scored a power-play goal following a penalty for a puck over the glass by Nikolaj Ehlers. Dorofeyev’s goal was facilitated by a pass from Jack Eichel.

However, Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal responded quickly by redirecting an Ehlers pass to score, maintaining a five-game goal streak and tying a Stanley Cup Final record. Staal had only two goals in the postseason before this series.

The second period saw Carolina initially on the penalty kill. Vegas encountered back-to-back penalties, leading to a Hurricanes power-play goal by Andrei Svechnikov. Svechnikov’s goal was crucial, joined by a subsequent goal from Sebastian Aho, adding pressure on the Golden Knights.

Vegas struggled further in the second period. William Karlsson left the game and did not return. In the third period, penalties continued to hurt Vegas. Their captain, Mark Stone, was penalized for a high stick, resulting in a Hurricanes double minor. Svechnikov scored again, extending Carolina’s lead to 4-1.

Despite Vegas’ late push, including another goal by Dorofeyev, Carolina maintained their lead. With two minutes left, a penalty on Ehlers forced the Hurricanes into another penalty kill. The Golden Knights attempted a 6-on-4 power play but faced a strong performance from Bussi, who made crucial saves, including one against Tomas Hertl.

Carolina secured a 4-2 win, leading the series 3-2 as they head back to Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. The Hurricanes now have the opportunity to clinch their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
