Teen Attacked Following New York Knicks Game 4 Comeback

3 hours ago 0

After the New York Knicks’ stunning Game 4 comeback earlier this week, a teenager was severely beaten near Madison Square Garden. According to the New York Police Department, a group approached the 17-year-old and engaged in an argument before someone began to punch and kick the teen. This resulted in the teen having a seizure and falling into a coma.

The altercation allegedly started when an individual supporting the opposing team, the San Antonio Spurs, yelled, “Spurs are up right now. We’re winning. Spurs in 7.” A person from the teenager’s group, though not the teen himself, responded with a profanity-laden insult directed at the Spurs, prompting the brawl that led to the teenager’s injuries.

The teenager has since woken from the coma and is in critical but stable condition. His mother expressed hope, stating that he is responding to treatment and may be moved from the ICU soon.

The Knicks’ victory has sparked chaotic celebrations across the city. In the aftermath, authorities made 15 arrests, and incidents of eggs thrown at Spurs player Victor Wembanyama were reported as the team returned to their hotel. Such violent reactions were previously noted during the Knicks’ playoff run, resulting in the cancellation of public watch parties outside Madison Square Garden in several instances.

Events surrounding the NBA Finals have been tumultuous. Madison Square Garden initially planned a large watch party for Game 4, which was ultimately canceled by Knicks owner James Dolan. Dolan criticized the city’s security requirements and did not want large numbers excluded from participating in such gatherings.

Despite the disruptions, enthusiasm remains high as the Knicks aim to secure their first championship title since 1973. Game 5 is set for Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. in San Antonio. Plans for viewing parties at venues like Radio City Music Hall and Central Park continue as Knicks fans rally behind their team.
