John Roberts and Shannon Bream have discussed the intention of far-left Democratic candidates, such as Zohran Mamdani, to reshape the Democratic Party. These candidates, supported by Bernie Sanders, challenge establishment Democrats during New York primaries, advocating for socialist policies that emphasize affordability. This movement within the Democratic Party is viewed as a significant internal change.
The America Action Network (AAN), a conservative nonprofit linked with House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has invested over $37 million in messaging about cost-of-living issues. According to AAN’s leadership, this figure underscores affordability as a pivotal concern for working families. Chris Winkelman, AAN’s president, stated that their investment highlights how conservative policies offer genuine relief.
The emphasis on affordability is crucial and is anticipated to be a key factor in the 2026 midterms. Despite recent inflation increases, AAN believes Republicans should continue promoting the affordability message as an effective voter outreach strategy. Ads have focused on Republican efforts, highlighted through Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.
“The American comeback is here. President Trump and House Republicans are delivering for the American people, keeping their promises and delivering the change they demanded,” an advertisement claims.
A recent Fox News poll indicates that 58 percent of voters consider cost of living their primary economic concern, up from 50 percent in February. Democrats have also addressed affordability issues, pointing to challenges President Trump faces in fulfilling promises of lowering everyday costs. Inflation rose by 4.2% in May, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a figure highlighted by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.
Jeffries expressed concerns, stating, “Inflation just hit a 3-year high, gas prices are out of control and life under Donald Trump is unaffordable,” on X.
Republican groups, including AAN, have criticized Democrats for opposing relief measures in the Big Beautiful Bill, arguing that successful opposition could result in widespread tax hikes. Richard Hudson, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), accused House Democrats of being disconnected from ordinary Americans’ concerns. He emphasized Republican priorities on affordability, public safety, and border security, contrasting them with Democrats’ agenda.
In ads targeting Florida, Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, and Washington State, AAN criticized Democrats. One ad attacked Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, accusing her of voting for the largest tax hike in American history and neglecting Washington families.
The group, hinting at further activities, assured, “Keep an eye out — we have much more to come later this summer.” Leo Briceno reports on politics for Fox News Digital’s congressional team and previously worked with World Magazine.
