Ongoing Investigation into Linked Murders in Los Angeles

Officials are currently investigating the potential connection between four murders of homeless individuals in Los Angeles, occurring from October to January, as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. These incidents took place in close proximity, specifically in the 1300 block of East 120th Street, which is part of the unincorporated area of Los Angeles.

Among the victims was former NFL player Kevin Johnson, who met a tragic end on January 21 at a homeless encampment. Kevin Johnson, aged 55, was found with both blunt force trauma and stab wounds, as reported by the local ABC News station, KABC. According to officials, all four victims had been living in homeless encampments.

“The tragic loss of four individuals in the Compton Creek area is under active investigation,” said an official source.

The series of murders began with the shooting of Michelle Steele, aged 52, on October 5, 2025. Although she initially survived, she succumbed to her injuries on November 12, 2025, as conveyed by sources to KABC. Following Steele’s murder, Octavio Arias, another homeless individual also aged 52, was killed on December 4 in the same vicinity, suffering head and neck trauma according to the L.A. County Medical Examiner.

Subsequently, on January 26, Mauro Alfaro, also in his 50s, was confirmed as the fourth victim, with blunt force trauma being the cause of death. Investigators are contemplating the possibility of these four murders being connected, potentially committed by the same individual, but thus far, no suspect has been confirmed.

Detectives continue to explore potential motives behind these murders, examining possibilities such as a personal vendetta against homeless individuals in the area, as well as potential involvement of drugs or gangs. Despite these considerations, there remains no concrete evidence definitively linking the cases at this time.
