In what is only his second season as the head coach for the Seattle Seahawks, Mike Macdonald has already earned the title of Super Bowl champion. The Seahawks showcased a remarkable defensive performance in their 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, held at Levi’s Stadium.
After the game, Macdonald was embraced by his team on the field and shared his emotions with NBC’s Maria Taylor. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I believe God called me to be a coach, and I listened to Him, and I thank Him. We are incredibly blessed to be Seahawks, to be 12s. And now, we’re world champions.”
Under Macdonald’s guidance, the Seahawks’ defense was able to thwart Patriots quarterback Drake Maye throughout the game. Despite a few notable throws by Maye, the Seahawks successfully put him on edge, limiting his effectiveness all night.
Seattle’s defensive efforts were evident in their six sacks on Maye, coupled with two interceptions and a forced fumble. One of these interceptions was returned for a touchdown by Seattle’s Uchenna Nwosu, further diminishing New England’s chances of mounting a comeback.
The Seahawks’ defense had been a cornerstone to their success throughout the 2025 season, ranking first in points allowed and sixth in total yards allowed. Seattle finished the regular season with a remarkable 14-3 record, claimed the NFC West title, and captured their first Super Bowl title since their 2013 season triumph.
On their path to the Super Bowl, the Seahawks defeated formidable contenders, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams.
