Kyle Busch’s family has confirmed the passing of the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion due to severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis. The tragic news emerged days after Busch’s hospitalization. Vice President of Kyle Busch Companies, Dakota Hunter, released a family statement explaining the medical evaluation results.

Busch, 41, collapsed in a Chevrolet simulator and had symptoms such as coughing up blood and shortness of breath. Despite being alert at the time, his condition deteriorated rapidly. He had been preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway before his untimely death.

Busch leaves behind a legacy as a future Hall of Famer, having joined the Cup Series in 2004 with 762 career starts and 63 victories. His accomplishments include championship wins in 2015 and 2019, and 234 victories across NASCAR’s national series. He holds all-time records in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with 102 and 69 wins respectively.

Following his passing, NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell praised Busch as an “American badass,” acknowledging his significant impact on the sport. Although disparities remained, O’Donnell expressed regret at losing the chance for future battles with Busch on the racetrack.

The announcement has prompted fond remembrances of Busch’s career and character within the NASCAR community. As people mourn his loss, the racing world reflects on his contributions and achievements.
