The old charm of Pizza Hut is making a comeback at various locations across the United States. Some restaurants have revived the signature décor that defined Pizza Hut in the 1980s and ’90s. Classic elements such as red cups, salad bars, checkerboard tables, and Tiffany-style stained-glass lamps are being reintroduced to 38 out of 93 Pizza Hut franchises managed by the Kansas-based Daland Corporation, as reported by Inc.com.
The makeover, termed ‘Pizza Hut Classic,’ also includes elements promoting the ‘Book It!’ program. This initiative was launched in 1984 as a way to encourage children to read more by offering rewards in the form of pizzas. This nostalgic renovation not only brings back cherished décor but ties in successful programs that benefit the community.
Tim Sparks, president of Daland Corporation, shared with Fox News that the Pizza Hut brand holds iconic status within the country. The nostalgia associated with retro Pizza Hut branches, like one located in Hempstead, Texas, is capturing customer interest. The brand’s roots trace back to Kansas in 1958, when brothers Dan and Frank Carney founded Pizza Hut after borrowing $600 from their mother, naming it based on the limited space for letters on their sign.
Currently, Pizza Hut operates more than 16,000 locations in over 100 countries. The classic look which once defined the franchise became sparse, but is now being revived. Sparks expressed excitement about returning Pizza Hut to its past glory, hoping the nostalgic ambiance will draw families back to dine at the revamped eateries.
The response to these nostalgic renovations has been overwhelmingly positive, according to Sparks, with bloggers creating viral content around their visits to Pizza Hut Classic locations. Sparks remarked, “Everybody gets super excited. There’s a lot of feel-good to it for sure.” This consumer excitement is seen as a positive signal for Pizza Hut, encouraging in-person dining experiences rather than quick takeout options.
A YouTube video showcasing the spread of Pizza Hut Classics has drawn enthusiastic remarks from viewers. Comments reflected joy at the return of cherished memories, with users excited to see the return of elements such as the pizza, salad bar, lamps, and jukebox. Sparks noted, “A lot of families, including my own, remember happier days at the traditional Pizza Hut.” This sentiment resonates with the public, increasing interest in the restored settings.
As Sparks encourages customers to relive their childhood experiences, he also invites families to make new memories at Pizza Hut Classic restaurants. “If it was good for us, it’s good for them, right?” he stated. He emphasized that pizza freshly served from the oven to the table greatly enhances the dining experience compared to delivery options.
