PEORIA — Junior second baseman Devin Hill played a key role in Mundelein’s decisive 13-3 victory over defending Class 4A champion Oswego. The game took place during a six-inning state semifinal at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex on Friday.

Hill contributed significantly with a strong performance, going 2-for-4 and achieving three RBIs. He successfully hit a run-scoring single in the first inning and followed up with a two-run single in the third inning. These plays helped propel the Mustangs to an 8-0 advantage against the Panthers.

Senior center fielder Kieley Tomas also showcased his talents, securing three hits and three RBIs for the Mustangs. Junior shortstop Taylor Pyke added two hits and two RBIs to the team’s success.

Mundelein’s senior ace, Shae Johnson, displayed her pitching prowess. Having led the team to the state semifinals in 2024, Johnson managed to allow only three runs on six hits and one walk. She effectively struck out nine batters, demonstrating her skill despite a past injury.

With this victory, the Mustangs (23-5) are set to face Lincoln-Way West (29-7) in their maiden state championship game scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
