U.S. Strikes in Southern Iran Amid Negotiations

2 weeks ago 0

The United States launched “self-defense” strikes in southern Iran on Monday. These strikes targeted missile launch sites and Iranian ships attempting to deploy mines. This information comes from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

In a statement given to Newsweek, Captain Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesperson, explained, “U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines.”

CENTCOM reaffirmed its commitment to protecting their forces, emphasizing restraint during the ongoing ceasefire. The statement underlined, “U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump commented on the situation through Truth Social. He stated on Monday that talks with Iran are “proceeding nicely.”

Trump remarked, “It will only be a Great Deal for all or, no Deal at all — Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before — And nobody wants that!” He also urged some Middle Eastern nations to “sign onto the Abraham Accords,” acknowledging U.S. efforts “to try and pull this very complex puzzle together.”

This story is still developing and will receive updates as new information becomes available.
