The AEW Women’s World Championship saw an intense four-way matchup at the Double or Nothing event in New York. Thekla, defending her title, entered the ring against Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander, and Hikaru Shida. The battle began with her opponents quickly teaming up to gain an advantage over Thekla.
Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander, and Hikaru Shida initially joined forces to neutralize Thekla, dubbed the “Toxic Spider,” from getting an upper hand. However, alliances were short-lived. Shida struck Statlander with a kendo stick to disrupt a pin attempt, leading to friction between Shida and Statlander.
Meanwhile, Thekla demonstrated tactical patience. She waited for Hayter and Shida to leave the ring after attempting a double clothesline on each other. This was Thekla’s opportunity. With Statlander stunned in the ring, Thekla delivered a decisive stomp, earning the victory and retaining her title.
The Austrian-born wrestler first captured the championship from Statlander during an episode of “Dynamite” in February. She has defended her title successfully six times since then.
Although Thekla’s next challenge remains uncertain, she mentioned in the post-show segment her interest in the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament. She is particularly supporting her teammate, Skye Blue, hoping for her success in the competition.
