A 24-year-old man was apprehended after seriously injuring a 52-year-old man in the New City neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. The incident occurred shortly after 2:10 a.m. during a confrontation between the two men on the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue.
According to Chicago police, what began as a verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight. The younger man reportedly drew a weapon and fired shots, hitting the older man in the head. The victim was transported to UChicago Medicine, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities arrested the 24-year-old, and charges are currently pending. Police are investigating the shooting, which they suspect to be related to a domestic dispute.
