A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a 38-year-old man died after a shark attack in Australia. The attack took place at Horseshoe Reef near Rottnest Island, located about 19 miles west of Perth. It happened shortly before 10 a.m., according to police reports.
The man was brought back to shore but, unfortunately, did not regain consciousness. A representative from St. John WA Ambulance stated, “A 38-year-old man was in the water at Horseshoe Reef when he was believed to have been bitten by a shark.” They added that the man was taken to shore by a vessel and met by paramedics, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The authorities identified the attacker as a great white shark. Rottnest Island is a well-known tourist location on Australia’s western coast, making this attack a concerning event for visitors and locals alike.
This incident marks the second fatal shark attack in Australia this year. Earlier, in January, a 12-year-old passed away a week after a shark attack in Sydney Harbor. Additionally, three non-fatal shark attacks occurred along the New South Wales coast within a span of two days around the same time.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in Perth urged the public to exercise increased caution in the area following the attack. They noted that the presence of a great white shark was reported in the region.
Footage from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation depicted police along with rescue officers at the scene, working tirelessly amidst the tragedy. News agencies like AFP and BBC News have been updating the public on this unfortunate event.
