The Justice Department is investigating a nonprofit organization based in Chicago. This nonprofit, supported by billionaire Reid Hoffman, is under scrutiny for allegedly covering the legal expenses of E. Jean Carroll. Carroll, an advice columnist, accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault.
The investigation focuses on statements made by Carroll during her deposition related to her civil lawsuit against Trump. In this lawsuit, a jury determined Trump had sexually assaulted and defamed Carroll.
The details of the investigation were shared by two individuals familiar with the situation.
Carroll was photographed leaving a federal court in New York in 2024, a year after the jury’s verdict was announced.
