‘The View’ co-host Joy Behar has addressed her upcoming extended absence from the show. She clarified on Friday that her time away should not be termed a ‘hiatus.’
During ‘The View’s’ ‘Behind the Table’ podcast on Tuesday, Behar initially announced her temporary departure from her hosting duties. The producer, Brian Teta, mentioned, ‘This is your last podcast for a little bit, because next week you’re not going to be here.’
On Friday, Behar tackled the swirling rumors about her break as she also promoted her new play. She explained that her break would involve a trip related to her work in London.
‘Okay, so there’s been a lot of media attention on me lately because I’m taking off the next two weeks. They’re calling it a hiatus. It’s not a hiatus,’ Behar stated. ‘I’m working. I have a planned trip overseas next week to work on my play, “My First Ex-Husband,” in London.’
Amid audience applause, Behar encouraged fans to visit the official website for her play to learn more about this and other productions she is involved in.
‘I’ve written a bunch of plays,’ she added, indicating her plans for another production in the Hamptons at the end of summer titled ‘Bonkers in the Boroughs.’
Sara Haines, Behar’s co-host, humorously remarked, ‘I love that they’re calling it a hiatus. That’s a break, people, when you stop working.’
When Behar asked if she would be missed, her co-hosts assured her, ‘We are going to miss you.’ Haines suggested that Behar could send her jokes via text during her absence.
Details on the play’s website describe ‘My First Ex-Husband’ as ‘a bold and heartfelt adaptation of true stories by the legendary Joy Behar, comedienne and co-host of “The View.” With razor-sharp wit and no filters, it explores the messy, hilarious truths of love, sex, and relationships.’
The website further elaborates that ‘A rotating cast of stars from theatre, television and film join the show, bringing their unique personalities to tell these tales that may be eerily familiar.’
