President Trump recently advocated for the cancellation of a planned concert series meant to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. This announcement comes after several musicians decided to withdraw from the event.
On Truth Social, the president stated, “Cancel it,” suggesting that a massive “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY” would be a better alternative to the concerts. He criticized the event’s musical acts as being “overpriced” and claimed that people had little interest in their performances.
The series in question is organized by Freedom 250, which is responsible for coordinating the government’s events for this significant national celebration. They had announced a lineup of nine musical performances to take place during a 16-day event known as the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, starting in late June.
Following the announcement, at least five artists have pulled out, citing that they were unaware of the event’s connection to the Trump administration’s plans for the nation’s anniversary.
Earlier that day, President Trump had made another suggestion on Truth Social. Instead of canceling the concerts, he proposed that he should headline the event himself, claiming to be “the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World” and boasting larger audiences than the late Elvis Presley.
