The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has accused Ukraine’s security services of orchestrating the shooting of a high-ranking military intelligence officer. The individual suspected of carrying out the attack, identified as Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba, was reportedly detained in Dubai and extradited to Russia with support from authorities in the United Arab Emirates.
This incident involves Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, who was shot multiple times at his residence in northwest Moscow, as per the reports by Russia’s Investigative Committee. The shooting is among numerous recent attacks on senior Russian military figures, with many attributed to Ukrainian actions.
The FSB claims that Korba and one of his accomplices have confessed, stating that the attack was ordered by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). According to the FSB, Korba had been recruited and instructed by the SBU in August 2025 to conduct surveillance on high-ranking officials in the Moscow area. They allege he acquired a gun, planted by the SBU, and an electronic key to Alekseyev’s apartment building through one of the accomplices.
On the day of the shooting, Korba allegedly waited near an elevator for Alekseyev and shot four times before fleeing to the United Arab Emirates, where he was later detained at the behest of Russian authorities. Details released by the FSB on Monday include claims that Korba and one accomplice confessed to committing the crime under SBU orders, although Kyiv had yet to respond to these allegations at that time.
Two alleged accomplices have also been identified in this case. One was detained in Moscow, while the other reportedly fled to Ukraine. The FSB’s statement suggests one of Korba’s accomplices was linked to the opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
The FSB released videos, including one of Korba and an accomplice allegedly admitting guilt, and another showing Korba in police custody upon his return to Russia. These admissions were publicized by Russian state news agency Tass, though it remains unclear whether the confessions were given voluntarily or under pressure.
Russian Lieutenant General Alekseyev, age 64, remains hospitalized following the attack. He is known for his involvement in responding to an incident involving mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in 2023 and was sanctioned by the European Union in 2019 due to connections with the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the UK.
