Grapes on the Green: An Annual Tradition in Northbrook

Grapes on the Green, a cherished summer tradition in Northbrook, returns for its fourth year on June 20. This adults-only wine tasting event is hosted at Village Green Park, backed by the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Park District.

Residents are invited to gather from 4 to 8 p.m. to enjoy various wines, games, light bites, and music by guitarist and vocalist Peter Warren. Warren offers a blend of jazz, bossa nova, instrumentals, and contemporary tunes.

We created this event in response to the community’s desire for adults-only events, and it’s been exciting to see people respond with such enthusiasm year after year, said Northbrook Park District Board President Mike Goodman.

Goodman emphasizes that whether you’re a wine enthusiast or someone who enjoys the park, the event provides a relaxed atmosphere.

This year marks Northbrook’s 125th anniversary. Northbrook President Kathryn Ciesla highlights Grapes on the Green as a showcase of the area’s vibrant spirit.

Past events attracted hundreds to the park, situated at Shermer and Meadow Roads. Tasting tickets are $49, providing 12 wine samples from family-owned Chicago Wine. Attendees also receive a tote bag and a snack box.

Mike Widmaier of Chicago Wine has been part of the event since its start, sharing wines from around the world. He has extensive industry experience and aims to present diverse styles.

This year’s selection includes a 2021 Torres ‘Gran Coronas’ Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva from Spain, a 2025 La Croix Rosé from France, a sparkling Rosé from California, and a Pinot Grigio from Italy.

Widmaier notes the mid-tier pricing range offers excellent value.

Non-tasting tickets cost $30; all attendees receive the event’s featured items. Only adults over 21 may attend, and outside beverages, children, and pets are prohibited.

Seating is limited, so attendees should bring their own chairs or blankets.
