Julianne Moore’s Views on Film Preferences Stir Debate

2 weeks ago 0

Julianne Moore, aged 65, has stirred controversy after expressing her distaste for films featuring “explosions and guns” during a Variety interview at the Kering Women in Motion Talk at the Cannes Film Festival. She mentioned a declining interest in tragedy and shared that global difficulties make it hard to engage with stories lacking true emotional depth. Moore stated, “I don’t want to engage in it when I feel the emotion doesn’t match real-world events.”

The actress elaborated on her script preferences, indicating a dislike for elements like murder, explosions, and superficial stakes, describing them as “noise” she struggles to portray or enjoy watching.

The comments, shared online, sparked reactions. Many highlighted her past roles in violent films, noting her involvement in movies like “Hannibal.” “I’ve lost count how many movies she’s done with guns,” one fan commented. Another fan noted, “Her past work includes violent entertainment she chose to participate in.” This included a reference to her film “Hannibal,” known for its graphic scenes.

While criticism was plentiful, support also emerged. “Julianne Moore choosing emotion over chaos explains her worldwide respect,” a supporter stated. Another agreed, saying, “We have enough violence. Bring back good family values in movies!” Commenters suggested a return to movies like “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Earlier, Moore faced criticism for her role in the film “May December,” accused of mimicking Vili Fualaau’s infamous relationship from the late 1990s. Despite this, Moore insisted it was an original story developed with director Todd Haynes.

Moore won an Academy Award in 2015 for her role in “Still Alice” and received nominations for several other films including “Boogie Nights.” This year, she’s attending Cannes to receive the Kering Women in Motion Award, recognizing her contributions to the role of women in film.
