Victor Wembanyama experienced a challenging night after the San Antonio Spurs’ dramatic loss to the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The Spurs fell victim to the biggest comeback in Finals history. Post-game, Wembanyama contended with objects being thrown at him by fans.
Arriving at their Midtown Manhattan hotel, the team faced an aggressive crowd. Fans recorded on their phones and shouted at the players. Chants of ‘Knicks in five’ echoed among the attendees.
Things turned for the worse as two objects were thrown at Wembanyama once he stepped off the bus. The first object went unnoticed. However, the second shattered against a street pole close to him.
No arrest reports surfaced from the area around the team’s hotel as of Thursday morning, according to the New York Post. The situation escalated further at Madison Square Garden, where security challenges led to the cancellation of a Game 4 watch party. This decision followed criticism from Knicks owner Jim Dolan toward the security measures in place.
Knicks fans have displayed violent behavior after previous Finals games in New York. Arrests occurred following the Knicks’ Game 3 loss during a watch party marred by fights.
In Times Square, fans reacted jubilantly to their team’s thrilling Game 4 victory against the Spurs. This excitement stemmed from an extraordinary match, where a dominant first half by the Spurs saw them lead by 27 points at halftime, 76-49. Entering the fourth quarter, the Knicks reduced the lead to 15 points, but the prospect of victory remained slim.
However, the Knicks shocked the sports community by outscoring the Spurs 32-16 in the fourth quarter. They secured a 107-106 win with OG Anunoby’s last-second tip-in, causing a euphoric reaction at Madison Square Garden.
This shift moved the series from a potential 2-2 tie to a 3-1 advantage for the Knicks, positioning them as a team destined for success.
