Meghan Markle recently shared photos of her children, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, at the childhood home of the late Princess Diana. Some experts are describing the move as ‘tasteless.’ In an Instagram post captioned ‘Summer Holiday,’ Markle posted an image believed to be taken at Althorp, the Spencer family’s ancestral estate. The photo shows Prince Harry walking with his children.
In the photo, Prince Archie and Harry hold bouquets, suggesting a visit to Princess Diana’s burial site on an island within the estate. Royal expert Hilary Fordwich commented that Prince William is likely ‘livid’ over Markle’s decision to share the photos. According to Fordwich, this action could fuel Prince William’s alleged disgust and hinder any plans for Meghan and Harry’s major re-entry into royal activities.
“Not only is Prince William likely to be livid regarding such commercialization of Althorp in such a tacky tasteless media post, it’ll fuel his disgust so he shall thwart any major re-entry.” — Hilary Fordwich, British royals expert
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams speculated that the Spencers must have given permission for the visit, making the sharing of these photos permissible. He noted that Harry and Meghan’s visit to the UK was marked by a maintained silence after a meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla, a contrast to previous instances.
British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard described Markle’s decision as ‘predictable,’ suggesting that it ties them to royal history while maintaining some distance. She emphasized that public understanding favors privacy but expects the crown to take precedence.
During Harry and Meghan’s recent UK trip, they reportedly reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla. Fordwich mentioned that King Charles desires a private reconciliation but not a return to significant royal responsibilities for Harry, given the stance of Prince William and concerns about leaks to the media.
Despite the meeting, Chard doubts that the encounter will lead to Harry’s acceptance back into the so-called ‘royal arena.’ She stressed that a family reunion differs from a return to royal life, noting the need for responsibility and formal apologies to facilitate any forward movement.
