Authorities have charged a suspect in the murder of three elderly men in Hawaii. Jacob Baker, 36, from Pahoa, faces multiple charges, including first-degree and second-degree murder. These charges stem from a tragic incident on Hawaii’s Big Island.
Baker has also been accused of several other offenses such as burglary, criminal property damage, theft, and unauthorized entry into a vehicle. The Hawaii Police Department outlined these charges following a comprehensive manhunt.
Police arrested Baker without bond. The manhunt involved both state and federal authorities after Baker was described as “armed and extremely dangerous.” The crimes occurred over two days, leading to the suspect’s apprehension in Kalapana.
The victims, identified as Robert Shine, 69, and John Carse, 69, along with another man aged 79, were found dead in Pahoa. Shine’s body was recovered from a cement pond, close to where the unidentified 79-year-old victim was found. Carse’s body was discovered 19 miles away.
Baker reportedly hid in a small cave on a property next to a vacant lot. Police captured him after video surveillance and witness reports guided them to his location.
At a news conference, Hawaii Police Chief Reed Mahuna discussed the investigation. Although the motive remains unclear, Mahuna noted two victims lived near each other, but no further connections have been identified.
This case has shocked the local community. Residents and authorities continue to seek answers as the investigation develops.
