Nickelodeon Actress Reveals Low Residual Earnings from Child Star Days

Actress Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori, known for her role on Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, has shared insights on the realities of residual income from past TV roles. Tedmori, now 37, recently discussed her experiences of receiving residual checks from her time as a child actor.

Earlier this week, Tedmori posted about an impending ‘crashout’ as she sorted through envelopes containing checks from her former show. She shared a video with it, noting, POV: You were on a TV show 20 years ago and a random envelope still shows up in your mailbox.

Opening the checks, Tedmori shared the often disappointing sums she receives. Residual checks are one of those weird parts of being a child actor that people are always curious about, so I figured I’d open them with you, she explained. Who’s ready to find out if I’m buying coffee… or a yacht?

She displayed the stack of unopened mail, noting that some checks are as little as a few cents. I have been procrastinating opening this for months because it is a b—-h, she admitted. Upon opening one envelope, she found a check for merely two cents.

Some envelopes contained checks even smaller, she shared, underscoring the often minimal returns from her past TV appearances. One check from an episode of Ned’s Declassified amounted to $8.63 in total, while another from 90210 was $30.06.

Expressing her surprise at receiving checks at all, she questioned the cost-effectiveness of sending them, humorously suggesting, Don’t come for me about throwing away a nickel, and questioned whether she should report such small amounts to the IRS.
