Authorities arrested a rogue swimmer in New York City on Monday who tried to escape police by swimming in a Central Park lake. The New York Police Department (NYPD) aimed to apprehend the man initially for petty larceny charges in Harlem. The incident was reported by the NYPD to Fox News Digital.

The suspect, seen from above, attempted to evade capture by jumping into the Harlem Meer in Central Park. This lake covers 11 acres and is located at the park’s northeast end. The individual, aged 23, sought to avoid arrest by entering the water.

An NYPD helicopter hovered over the lake, capturing footage as the man tried to swim to the opposite shore. Eventually, NYPD divers intervened, retrieved the swimmer, and took him into custody. He was then transported to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
