Serena Williams, who left professional tennis in September 2022, will make her comeback nearly four years later. On Monday, she revealed her collaboration with Nike and plans to compete in the doubles event at the HSBC Championships, held at Queen’s Club in London from June 8-14.

The 44-year-old tennis icon shared her reasons for choosing this moment to return to the sport. She stated, “Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter. Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

Williams’ departure in 2022 wasn’t a complete farewell; she expressed ambivalence about traditional retirement. She prioritized family, which she has grown with her husband, Alexis Ohanian. They welcomed their first child in 2017 and their second in 2023.

Despite stepping away, Williams’ competitive spirit never faded, leading to her return to the WTA Tour. The Women’s Tennis Association celebrated her decision, with Chair Valerie Camillo commenting, “Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all time, with a legacy that extends far beyond the court. Her return is an expression of her passion for competition, and I cannot wait to see her face a new generation of top players.”

Williams is recognized not only for her championships but also as a successful entrepreneur and advocate for important issues. Her return marks an exciting moment for women’s tennis as she rejoins the tour.
