Action-Packed Game 1
The Stanley Cup Final began with an exciting showdown between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights secured a narrow 5-4 victory. Carolina set the pace early when Nikolaj Ehlers scored on the series’ first shot. Ehlers added another goal later in the period.
Golden Knights’ Resilience
Vegas quickly bounced back, equalizing, then taking the lead. Tomas Hertl scored the decisive goal, marking his second game-winner in three matches. This goal was significant as Hertl had previously endured a 29-game goal drought.

Overcoming Challenges
Hertl’s former San Jose Sharks teammate, Joe Pavelski, was surprised by Hertl’s goal drought when informed during the series against the Anaheim Ducks. Pavelski revealed he contacted Hertl to offer support.
Hertl acknowledged Pavelski’s influence, sharing, “My old teammate called me, Joe Pavelski, he really helped me. He’s a great goal scorer who has faced challenges too. His advice helped me get my first goal.”
Postseason Turnaround
Hertl’s performance has been crucial for Vegas. He scored in consecutive games against Anaheim, followed by another game-winner against the Avalanche and his recent goal versus Carolina.
Vegas needs timely performances to win the Stanley Cup. Hertl and Brett Howden, who leads with 11 postseason goals compared to 12 in the regular season, are key contributors.
Pavelski’s phone call may have provided the encouragement Hertl needed. “I didn’t do anything special,” Pavelski noted. “Just checking in as a friend. Hertl was already playing well, he just needed a nudge.”
