House Approves Major Security Assistance for Ukraine

23 hours ago 0

On Thursday, the House approved a bipartisan bill providing over $8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine. This is the most substantial aid package for Ukraine to advance in Congress in more than a year. The approval came despite opposition from the GOP leadership in the chamber.

Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, a Democrat from New York, was noted speaking on Capitol Hill earlier. The legislation only reached the floor after six Republicans broke ranks, forcing a vote on the bill. The decision highlights a significant division within the Republican party regarding foreign aid and security issues.

This package’s approval demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing global tensions. The funds aim to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and provide much-needed assistance in their efforts to maintain national security and stability.
