Controversies Challenge Graham Platner’s Senate Campaign in Maine

2 hours ago 0

Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-Pa., expressed on News Central that Graham Platner “has disqualified himself” from Maine’s U.S. Senate race. Co-anchor Boris Sanchez asked her if she supported the Democratic candidate’s campaign. Dean emphasized the distressing nature of the stories surrounding Platner, highlighting their increasing number. “I’m not a voter in Maine,” Dean remarked, “but he has disqualified himself in my eyes. He is not fit to serve as a senator. We’ll see how Maine deals with it.” Despite Platner’s ongoing campaign, Maine Governor Janet Mills remains on the ballot for the upcoming Democratic primary.

Platner, an oyster farmer and combat veteran, seeks the Democratic nomination to challenge the seasoned Republican Senator Susan Collins. Fox News Digital reported allegations from Lyndsey Fifield, a former girlfriend, outlining aggressive behavior by Platner. These claims include physical altercations and restraining her in a room.

In response, Platner acknowledged some personal shortcomings but denied broader allegations, labeling them politically motivated. He stated, “Any characterization beyond that is false.” Further controversies have emerged, including revelations about explicit text exchanges with married women, a tattoo associated with Nazi symbolism, and dismissive comments on military sexual assault. Platner has since apologized for past homophobic slurs used on Reddit.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills, despite suspending her active campaign, remains on the ballot. Maine’s deputy secretary of state confirmed that votes for her will count. Mills insists voters still have the option to select her, reiterating that she only stopped active campaigning.

During her interview, Dean, a House Foreign Affairs Committee member, also addressed U.S. diplomacy with Iran. She criticized the Trump administration’s approach, urging reliance on diplomats to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities. Dean warned against unfreezing Iranian assets without securing justice and a deal.

Discussing immigration enforcement, Dean voiced opposition to a proposed $1.8 billion “weaponization fund” and additional ICE funding, emphasizing that, “ICE doesn’t need another dime. We must retract financial resources instead.” Fox News Digital reached out to Platner for his comments, but he did not respond immediately.
