Apple Unveils Siri AI at Worldwide Developers Conference

1 week ago 0

On June 8, 2026, Apple announced a major update to its virtual assistant, giving it artificial intelligence features and renaming it Siri AI. The announcement was made at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

Apple executives demonstrated Siri AI’s new capabilities, which include searching for concert dates, shopping online, and planning events like soccer watch parties. This update is the most significant for Siri since Apple acquired the assistant in 2010 and incorporated it into its devices the following year.

Siri AI places Apple in direct competition with modern AI assistants such as ChatGPT. Mike Rockwell, Vice President of Siri engineering, explained in a keynote video that the AI will use a wide range of information sources, both from within devices and the web, to answer questions and complete tasks.

At the conference, Apple also revealed the next generation of Apple Intelligence. Updates across various systems including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS were showcased.

Siri is now a more capable assistant that aids users in finding information and completing tasks efficiently.

Despite some consumer dissatisfaction with the rapid integration of AI by other companies, like Microsoft’s partial retreat from AI on Xbox, users are downloading AI chats in large numbers. For instance, ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini are among the top apps in Apple’s marketplace.

Earlier this year, Apple formed an AI partnership with Google, utilizing Google’s Gemini to help power the new version of Siri. Apple has been cautious with its AI adoption but entered the market with ChatGPT integration on iPhones in 2024. However, this partnership has seen challenges, with OpenAI considering legal actions, according to Bloomberg.

Apple emphasizes Siri AI’s unique advantages, such as searching through photos or messages on devices and creating reminders with fewer steps compared to third-party assistants. Rockwell stated, “Because it’s built into the keyboard, you can use it across the system, whether texting or using a journaling app.”

Other potential uses highlighted include asking for sightseeing tips, exercise advice, and brainstorming fun nicknames for animals. Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, announced Siri AI’s availability on iPhones, iPads, and Macs later this year, initially in English. Expansion to other languages will follow, though it won’t be immediately available in the EU or China due to regulatory requirements.
