Atlanta Dream Triumph with Reese’s Stellar Performance Against Mystics

On Saturday, the Atlanta Dream delivered an outstanding performance by defeating the Mystics 109-77 in the Commissioner’s Cup. Rhyne Howard led Atlanta with 19 points, successfully hitting 71% of her attempts from beyond the arc, alongside three assists and six steals. Allisha Gray contributed 15 points and five assists, earning 12 points from the free-throw line.

The spotlight shone on Angel Reese, who equaled her season-high with 18 points, secured 17 rebounds, and maintained a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Her performance also included four steals and a block.

With this win, the Dream hold a 7-3 record, leading the Eastern Conference. Reese has achieved over 50 double-doubles in 75 games, joining an elite group of only four players in the WNBA or NBA to accomplish this. She is one double-double away from tying Blake Griffin’s record for the most double-doubles in that span.

Reese’s milestone occurs just before she faces the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena, the team that traded her. In 2025, Reese expressed her dissatisfaction with the Sky’s direction, stating to the Chicago Tribune her need for personal growth if improvements were not seen. Her comments led to a half-game suspension and a deteriorated relationship with the team.

On April 6, 2026, Reese was traded to Atlanta in exchange for two first-round picks. Atlanta Dream GM Dan Padover described Reese as “a dynamic talent and a perfect fit for what we are building.” Reese’s debut with the Dream was remarkable, as she became the fastest player to reach 50 career double-doubles in the WNBA’s history, surpassing Tina Charles, who required 75 games. Reese now approaches Blake Griffin’s record in the first 75 games of a career.
