Bonnie Tyler’s Health Update: Out of Coma but Still in Intensive Care

3 hours ago 0

Bonnie Tyler, famed for the hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has awakened from a coma following cardiac arrest. Although she has seen some improvement, she remains in intensive care and is considered “very unwell.” Tyler’s official website recently shared an update stating that while she is no longer in a medically induced coma, her recovery in a Portuguese hospital continues to be a slow process. Her medical team holds a positive outlook for a good recovery, but it will require patience and time.

As her condition stabilizes, all of Tyler’s upcoming performances have been canceled. The hope is that the shows planned for the fall might proceed as scheduled if her health allows.

The public statement expressed gratitude for the widespread support and well-wishes Tyler has received. Nevertheless, her family has requested privacy while further updates will be communicated when significant changes occur.

In May, Tyler underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal and was placed in a medically induced coma to aid her healing process. Born Gaynor Hopkins, Tyler rose to fame in the music world with her 1976 hit “Lost In France” and later achieved global success with “Holding Out for a Hero” and other iconic songs.

Though most popular in the 1980s, Tyler maintained her presence in the music industry, even representing the U.K. in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013. Throughout the 2020s, she continued performing as part of her Jubilee Tour, which celebrated her five-decade career. Tyler has expressed how touring energizes her, once telling The Times in 2025, “Touring keeps me going. I consider myself a working-class girl, and I’ve never stopped working.”

Her timeless tracks, particularly “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” continue to resonate globally, often associated with astronomical events like solar or lunar eclipses. Speaking to “Good Morning America” in 2024, she mentioned the joy she feels hearing her iconic song played worldwide during these celestial events.

Tyler has been married to Robert Sullivan since 1973. Sullivan, a former Olympic judo competitor, also works in real estate. The couple splits their time living between homes in Wales and Portugal. They do not have children together.
