2 hours ago 0

In a landmark achievement, New York Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges became the first teammates to win both a college national title and an NBA championship together. The Knicks secured their first title since 1973 by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals.

Jalen Brunson played a pivotal role and was named NBA Finals MVP. Known for their camaraderie, Brunson co-hosts the ‘Roommates Show’ podcast with fellow teammate Josh Hart. Despite their lighthearted banter, the trio shares a deep appreciation for their accomplishments.

During a ‘TODAY’ show appearance with Jenna Bush Hager, Brunson, Bridges, and Hart reflected on their special bond. Asked whether their NBA title felt ‘extra special,’ Brunson quipped, ‘It’s more special knowing me and Mikal have one more championship than Josh.’ This playful jab highlights the strong connection among the teammates.

Brunson elaborated, ‘It’s special knowing that, when we were younger, we all had a goal of making it to the NBA. Achieving something great in college and twice in the NBA—well, more than Josh—is fantastic. Despite any situation, we have each other’s backs and plenty of love for one another.’

Brunson shared a recent heartfelt message from Hart, ‘He texted us saying, “I don’t know if I can say this in person because I may be emotional, but I really love you guys, and it means the most to me having you all here.” Their bond is undeniably strong.

Brunson, Bridges, Hart, and their Villanova teammates claimed the NCAA national championship in 2016. Hart entered the NBA Draft as the 30th overall pick in 2017. Brunson and Bridges continued their collegiate success by securing the 2018 NCAA national championship. In that year’s draft, Bridges was taken 10th by the Philadelphia 76ers, while Brunson joined the Dallas Mavericks as the 33rd overall pick.

The transition to the Knicks began when Brunson signed in July 2022. Hart was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2023. Bridges arrived via a significant trade from the Brooklyn Nets in July 2024, involving five first-round draft picks. Their journey culminated in a historic championship win for the Knicks.
