American Cuisine’s Influence Worldwide
Rachel Campos-Duffy, Charlie Hurt, and Griff Jenkins from ‘Fox & Friends’ discuss the expanding global popularity of American cuisine following the US World Cup victory. They emphasize an interesting trend: international tourists discovering and enjoying ranch dressing. This culinary curiosity has led the TSA to issue warnings about packing liquid ranch in carry-on luggage, highlighting the cultural impact of American preferences worldwide.
World Cup Red Card for Mouth-Covering
The World Cup introduced a groundbreaking rule giving referees the authority to issue red cards to players who cover their mouths while speaking to an opponent during confrontations. This rule came into effect during the recent match between Paraguay and Turkey, with Paraguay’s midfielder Miguel Almiron receiving the first red card under these new regulations.
Almiron’s infraction occurred during first-half stoppage time after a verbal exchange with Mert Mulder. Referee Ivan Barton, after reviewing video evidence, issued the red card, leaving Paraguay with 10 players. Despite this setback, Paraguay managed a 1-0 victory, securing a strong position for the USA in the tournament’s brackets.
“According to the law, if you cover your mouth, you’re sent off. Red card,” stated Paraguay’s coach, Gustavo Alfaro. “There’s nothing I can do about that. Unfortunately, we can’t issue a new opinion on this.”
Almiron’s red card means he will be suspended for Paraguay’s crucial next match against Australia. The winner will clinch the group’s second place, with the loser’s advancement relying on other factors. While Paraguay’s progression seems probable (84% chance), it’s not guaranteed.
FIFA’s New Rule and Its Origins
FIFA president Gianni Infantino championed this new rule following an incident where Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni attempted verbal insults masked by mouth-covering against Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior during a Champions League game.
Almiron’s encounter with these new regulations marks his second carding at this World Cup, the previous being a yellow card overturned via video review against the US.
