Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese added another chapter to their ongoing rivalry during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Atlanta Dream in Atlanta on Saturday. The tensions began in the first quarter when Clark was fouled by the Dream’s Jordin Canada near the top of the key. Reese then took a swipe at the ball in Clark’s hands, prompting Clark to wave Reese off after sinking a three-pointer right in front of her.
This incident underscored the animosity between the two players. Reese has not hidden her frustration with Clark, as seen in their previous encounters. In another recent matchup, Reese mocked Clark during a stoppage in play, highlighting their ongoing discord.
Flashbacks of Reese’s intense reaction to Clark last season also surfaced. While playing for the Chicago Sky, Reese lost her composure after being fouled by Clark and had to be restrained by her teammates. Clark, on the other hand, remained calm and walked away.
Their contentious relationship dates back to the 2023 National Championship game, where Reese’s taunts during the game earned her the reputation of the antagonist in this rivalry. Some view Reese’s actions as stemming from jealousy rather than simple competition.
In the latest matchup, the Fever struggled in the third quarter, being outscored 28-15, which allowed the Dream to secure a 113-96 victory. Despite Clark’s impressive 26-point performance, she also tallied seven turnovers. Reese contributed 18 points and eight rebounds to the Dream’s win. The Dream now hold a 2-1 lead over Indiana in the season series.
