3 hours ago 0

The Philadelphia Phillies achieved a significant milestone in their season following the departure of manager Rob Thomson. Two of the team’s major stars showcased an exceptional performance that caught attention across the league.

Kyle Schwarber dominated with his power hitting by launching three home runs during the game, including a remarkable pair in the third inning. Meanwhile, Bryce Harper delivered an impressive cycle, further embellishing his already accomplished career.

These remarkable achievements propelled the Phillies to a resounding 15-3 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday. Philadelphia’s resurgence gained traction through this standout showing from two of baseball’s marquee players.

Schwarber’s first home run traveled a distance of 456 feet, while his second shot in the third inning measured 457 feet off Mets reliever Cionel Pérez. He concluded his spectacular night with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, bringing his major league-leading home run total to 28. This feat represented the fifth time Schwarber has achieved a three-homer game in his career.

On the pitching front, Cristopher Sanchez delivered a solid performance, allowing a single earned run over six innings and lowering his ERA to 1.80. Sanchez maintained his streak at Citizens Bank Park by allowing two earned runs or fewer over 23 consecutive starts, a record second only to Jacob deGrom’s 24 such starts at Citi Field.

Schwarber’s noteworthy achievement marked him as the 67th player in major league history to hit multiple home runs in an inning and he mirrored Houston’s Yordan Alvarez's performance from June 12 this season. Moreover, Schwarber reached a rare mark by becoming the fourth Phillies player to achieve two home runs in one inning, joining Trea Turner, Von Hayes, and Andy Seminick.

Harper also contributed significantly by hitting his 16th home run in the first inning. He added a double and single in the third and a two-run triple in the fifth inning, completing an impressive cycle. Harper’s cycle represented the 11th in Phillies history.

The Phillies and Mets are set to conclude their three-game series on Sunday night, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET.
