Artists on the Bluff: A Celebration of Local Creativity

3 hours ago 0

In contrast to the widespread appeal of mass-market art fairs, the Artists on the Bluff Summer Arts Festival offers a more personal touch, centered on local artists’ visions. Celebrated in downtown Lake Bluff on the Village Green, this 26-year tradition remains dedicated to its mission of promoting local talent.

The festival, held over the weekend, showcased the creativity of young and old alike. Children like four-year-old Remy Dobbins, five-year-old Olivia Evans, and three-year-old Reese Hrusovsky, all from Lake Bluff, engaged in creating original Father’s Day cards. The event featured 29 seasoned, locally-based artists and included live music, local food trucks, and art activities for children.

Director Alison Tompkins emphasized the local focus of the festival. “It’s vital for the Lake Bluff community to experience what local makers are creating,” she noted. The artists, hailing from within a 100-mile radius, presented varied works ranging from watercolors and acrylics to woodwork and jewelry, offering a diverse display of local inspiration.

Christiane Bouret, an artist from Skokie, participated this year. She appreciated the festival’s focus, noting, “Here, the artists have the freedom to create true to their vision.” Pencil artist Phil Schorn described the event as “a hidden gem.” He highlighted the talented artists and the intimate setting.

Attendees like Matt and Katie Frekko from Lake Forest found the festival to be a social gathering. “The show feels small and intimate, with diverse art that isn’t overwhelming,” Matt commented. Annette Dezelen, another regular attendee, said, “This is where you’ll find a one-of-a-kind treasure, crafted by local talent.”

The festival remains a cherished platform for local artists to connect with their community, ensuring that each year brings fresh, unique creations to the forefront.
