Boston Celtics’ All-Star Jaylen Brown recently addressed comments on his Twitch channel, expressing how criticism fuels his motivation. Brown stated, “To all the people doubting me, you’re turning me into a monster.” NBA insider Shams Charania added more to this narrative with reports on a major trade in the league.
Chris Haynes initially reported that the Milwaukee Bucks agreed to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. Shams Charania provided additional context, detailing that the Boston Celtics made an aggressive bid for Antetokounmpo. According to Charania, the Celtics offered Milwaukee a package including 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks, but the Bucks were negotiating with both Miami and Boston, as per Antetokounmpo’s preferences.
Kevin O’Connor from Yahoo! Sports revealed that Bucks owner Jimmy Haslam influenced the decision to prefer the Heat’s offer. Haslam, who also owns the Cleveland Browns, preferred a deal with more certainty, fearing that Brown might seek an exit from Milwaukee within a year. The Heat’s proposal included Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, a pick swap, and a second-round pick.
Charania noted that Miami’s offer to Milwaukee contained unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a pick swap in 2030, and a 2033 second-rounder. The deal is direct, with no other teams involved, and is set for execution on July 6. This leaves room for potential adjustments in the deal’s structure.
The Celtics’ decision to include Brown in their proposal, which was ultimately declined, raises questions about Brown’s future with the team. Trade rumors suggest he might be moved before the next season, even if it isn’t to the Bucks.
During Jayson Tatum’s recovery from a torn Achilles, Brown, 29, achieved career-high averages across all metrics, serving as the Celtics’ leading player. Despite the Celtics’ elimination by the Philadelphia 76ers in the playoffs’ first round, Brown regarded the season as his “favorite year” in his basketball career.
